Train Derailed In DuPont, WA
Six people have died as a result of an Amtrak train derailing, and nearly everyone else on board were admitted to hospitals in the area. All but one of the cars left the track and fell to Interstate 5 in DuPont, WA. The derailing has stopped traffic across all southbound lanes, and according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s department, those lanes will remain closed for quite some time while the investigation goes on, and the cars are removed. Multiple vehicles were struck by the train cars dropping onto the road, but thankfully everyone driving survived.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people affected, and especially to the families of those who have perished.
The derailed train was the first on a new route connecting Seattle and Portland.
